Biography
www.rogierschalken.com Rogier Schalken is a Dutch film director with a lifelong fascination for VFX, animation, and new technology. After studying computer graphics in art school, he spent ten years as founder and Creative Director of MediaMonks Films and later directed at The Mill. He now works independently on global productions with agencies, production companies, and VFX studios around the world. Raised on MTV, Sega, Prodigy, and Chris Cunningham, his work blends live action with CGI and animation, driven by bold energy, rhythm, and distinctive sound design. His hands-on background makes him comfortable across interactive storytelling, real-time production, VR, and other emerging formats, often guiding projects from first idea to final film. His portfolio includes campaigns for Google, Samsung, Riot Games, PUBG Krafton, Activision, Adidas, KLM, and Wrangler, working with agencies like Ogilvy, Leo Burnett, 72andSunny, Wieden+Kennedy, DDB, and Cheil, as well as direct-to-client collaborations. He has directed global music artists such as Charlotte de Witte, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, and Steve Aoki, along with athletes including Messi and NFL players. His work has received a D&AD Wooden Pencil and recognition from Cannes Lions, Eurobest, the Webby Awards, Golden Epica, ADCN, and FWA Site of the Year, and he has served on several juries including D&AD.
