With the growing amount of philanthropic donations - 17 billion DKK was donated to more than 10.000 nonprofits in 2018 – there is a growing interest among foundations, grantees, and legislators to understand the short-term results and the long-term impacts of donations. The way results are reported today by grantees varies a lot and every foundation have their own way of following up. Making it impossible to compare and understand the impact as well as creating a lot of work for all parties involved. In addition, important knowledge is often not shared and there is a lack of transparency about the actual results. The solution was to create a digital and shared platform that supports the grantees with a common structure that describes their work and results and allow foundations to get comparable data across the initiatives they support. To bring this idea to life Foundgood (www.foundgood.org) was created. The platform re-uses the strong and reliable data structure of Salesforce, but with an appealing and supportive front end, tailored for the foundations and grantees' needs. Foundgood is owned by Found Aid (www.found-aid.org) a non-profit company and built-in collaboration with some of the best people other there. Foundgood helps grantees explain their initiatives in a structured way and breaking their work into measurable parts to be reported on. As soon as something happens in regard to the progress of activities, organizations can post photo and video updates or make an update to a measurable target, which will notify the supporting foundations of the progress and current, real-time results. Overall, the aim of the project is to develop a platform allowing everyone to access the same data in one place, to get easy follow-ups, understand results, and create a shared communication platform for grantees and foundations. Furthermore, the platform allows grantees to “tag” their results to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to impact-indicators that are relevant to specific foundations. Furthermore, the platform allows grantees to “tag” their results to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to impact-indicators that are relevant to specific foundations. Result Foundgood is the only known platform in the world helping both foundations and grantees to understand the impact they have in a transparent, structured way. The platform has so far gained traction, both among the big and small foundations and has resulted in new ways of collaborating between non-profits and foundations. For a year, Foundgood has been live in a version that has been tested by large foundations such as the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the LEO Foundation and the KR Foundation. In November 2019, The Novo Nordisk Foundation decided to invest in the further development of Foundgood. The platform has also received funding from LEO Foundation, Ole Kirk’s Foundation, Lauritzen Foundations, and KR Foundation. “The Foundgood platform is designed to report results and gives an easy overview of the initiatives we support. This enables the Novo Nordisk Foundation to better understand the footprint of the foundation across our grant areas, and over time the long-term impact”. “The platform will help us be more transparent and share our experiences across philanthropy - to the benefit of those we help” says Thomas Alslev Christensen, Head of Impact at the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Currently, 18 Non-profit organisations and NGO’s are using the platform and are actively using it to report on their ongoing work. Among the 18 organisations are SOS Børnebyerne, Dansk Flygtningehjælp, Bloom, Astra, Foreningen Nydansker, Royal Run, Trampolinhuset, Red Barnet, Maternity Foundation and other small non-profits Carolina Mieres, Foundation Relationship Responsible from SOS Children’s Villages on what the new platform has done for their work as an organization: “We really appreciate, that we can present our results in a nice and accessible way - we are sure that it will be easier for all of us to follow and value the work being made. It's great that FoundGood gives us so much space and opportunity to talk about our results as one of the very large organisations in the field. It feels very democratic.” For the Spring of 2020, 70 new initiatives have been scheduled to begin reporting in Foundgood within the areas of social and humanitarian support and education funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
