History in The Corn
Discover the traces of our ancestors hidden in cornfields in a new exhibition about aerial archaeology at Holstebro Museum. Holstebro Museum is a cultural history museum with a focus on archaeology. The exhibition ‘History in the corn’ explores the field of aerial archaeology taking the visitor on a flight over cornfields in Denmark to discover and study the traces from where our ancestors lived. When flying over a golden cornfield, the traces of ancient villages from thousands of years ago becomes completely visible - as if the people who had once lived here are still present in the landscape. But the archaeologist only has a narrow window of opportunity to see these traces: the crop is harvested in august and then the evidence is gone. Maybe they will find it again next year, or maybe it is gone forever. Moving around the exhibition the visitor should imagine that they are on an airplane in the sky looking down on the landscape. All the aerial photos in the exhibition have transparent boards with information about the site and some have additional images, which elaborate the story. At eight selected aerial photos the visitor can discover the traces of our ancestors. Here reconstructions of ancient villages are drawn on transparent boards, that the visitor can hold up in front of the aerial photo giving information about the site and the type of houses that used to be there. The exhibition creates a feeling of almost being able to see through the earth and generates a whole new story about the past hidden in the corn. https://www.yoke.dk/
