In response to the persistent labor and skills shortage in the hospitality sector, an elite team has been assembled from the advertising industry's top talents to launch the largest advertising recruitment campaign in the UK. Spearheaded by Julian Douglas as part of his IPA Presidential 10X THINK Agenda, this initiative, in collaboration with Hospitality Rising, aims to rescue the nation's hotels, pubs, bars, and restaurants. The overarching goal is to double the number of individuals considering a career in the sector, addressing the critical shortage of over 400,000 hospitality vacancies. The team, curated by Julian Douglas, includes strategic input from Matt Waxman of Ogilvy, renowned for his IPA Grand Prix-winning recruitment work for the British Army. Creative direction is led by Forever Beta, a Creative and Innovation agency, while VCCP London manages account handling and project management. As per UK Hospitality data, the industry faces a severe worker shortage, compounded by research from KAM and Hospitality Rising indicating that only 21% of UK workers find the hospitality sector appealing. The perception of the industry as offering short-term career progression, rather than valuable long-term skills, has been exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic. The campaign seeks to reshape perceptions by portraying a career in hospitality as dynamic and exciting, challenging the notion that it is mundane. Emphasizing collaboration, teamwork, and a vibrant work environment, the mission is encapsulated in the slogan 'Rise Fast. Work Young.' The campaign highlights the sector's ability to keep individuals young at heart, offering the freedom to break away from a traditional 9-5 job and the potential for quicker career advancement compared to office-based roles. The creative aspect showcases animated hospitality professionals - chefs, waiting staff, baristas, mixologists, room attendants, and management personnel - engaged in their respective roles against colorful backgrounds. Slogans such as 'Sounds like some fun shift,' 'Don't grow old for a living,' and 'Work on the frontline of fun' reinforce the message that a career in the industry is not just for the younger generation but keeps individuals youthful, providing freedom from a conventional 9-5 job and faster career progression compared to office positions.
