EXHIBIT A-i: The Refugee Account
Exhibit A-i is a campaign designed to expose the realities of Australia’s offshore refugee detention centres, where journalists and cameras have long been banned. Based on hundreds of hours of interviews with detainees, the project used AI image generation to recreate visual evidence of the conditions and experiences described by survivors, carefully working to reflect accurate details and authentic emotional context. The resulting images and testimonies were compiled into a comprehensive book documenting life in detention and distributed to members of parliament, journalists, and the public. Through exhibitions, out-of-home placements, and inclusion in stock image libraries, the campaign aimed to make an otherwise hidden humanitarian issue visible and pressure policymakers to address it.
