Branding | Strategy | Graphic design | Photography ThiemeMeulenhoff is one of the largest educational publishers in The Netherlands with an impressive portfolio of sub-brands. new-interface-words-open-new-worlds is their leading English teaching method, but the brand had something missing, whilst their tools offered thorough exam preparation with a relevance to real-world contexts - the connection between their target group was missing. With this as our starting point, our task was to create a new and fresh identity that supported the concept of the tool and could express the spectrum of possibilities that English has to offer IDEA We’re living in a globalized world. Yesterday’s geographical borders are vanishing day by day and the only wall that can keep us apart is our inability to communicate with each other. English has become the universal liaison, the language of the Earth, the common thread that can unite people and ideas. But English is not just a language that helps us communicate, but a language of opportunities. It’s an eye-opener and a door opener. This cultural tension led us to the new brand pay-off, ‘Words can open new worlds’ and a concept that captures how language is the key to expanding our views and bringing new experiences. EXECUTION The use of bold typography emphasizes how words can expand into new life paths, whilst a simple and elegant style translated graphically with a grid. This grid represents spaces that open doors to new realities and possibilities, an idea that also lived inside the design of the logo which made it appear as both an open door and a speech bubble. But the aspect which gave the execution a rich and layered meaning was the photography, specifically the choice of mirrors and their symbolism. With a modern and ludic approach, we managed to create dreamy images that are powerful and innovative. Oh, and did we mention that the models you see are real New Interface students? With this, the philosophy that ‘Words can open new worlds’ occupied every aspect of the project. The result sees engagement with the audience built through the application of the total concept onto book covers which students interact on a daily basis, ThiemeMeulenhoff’s online channels, as well as on posters and give-away items such as linen tote bags and chewing gum packets. https://www.flirtcreativity.com/
