Expedition Sewing Kit
The Expedition Sewing Kit is Patagonia’s palm-sized field-repair tool for heavy-duty gear — tents, backpacks, boots, webbing — so a blown seam on the trail is not the end of the trip. Sold today as the Expedition Sewing Awl, the Fall 2025 reissue molds the body from 100% recycled nylon, ships with two #23 industrial needles (one pre-installed, one nested inside the handle), and a stainless-steel bobbin pre-wound with 40 metres of grey recycled polyester thread, with a rubber washer for adjustable tension and an orange drawcord for carry. The line continues a repair-tool tradition that began as the Chouinard Equipment “Diamond C” sewing kit and returned to stores in 2013 as an aluminium-awl Expedition Sewing Kit under a “Buy Less, Repair More” message. Alongside the hardware, Patagonia’s long-running partnership with iFixit publishes a step-by-step Expedition Sewing Awl guide so customers can set up the tool and lockstitch split seams at home or in the field without voiding the warranty. The awl is Fair Trade Certified™ factory–made and weighs about 34 g.
