Freedom Should Be Free
The Ad Council and The Bail Project have launched the "Freedom Should Be Free" campaign, featuring NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, professor Michael Eric Dyson, and activist Leyna Bloom. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the injustices of cash bail, which disproportionately affects low-income communities and people of color, holding nearly half a million Americans in jail without conviction due to unaffordable bail. The campaign highlights how this two-tiered justice system undermines the presumption of innocence and can lead to devastating consequences like job loss and family separation. With visually striking portraits and direct appeals for reform, the campaign emphasizes that justice should be equitable for all, regardless of financial means. It was created by Scheme Engine and is part of a nationwide effort to advocate for systemic change.
