The Pride Race
Making a clear stand for diversity on one of the main battlefields of homophobia: online gaming. Urgence Homophie is an association that struggles against all forms of LGBTphobic discrimination and works for more representation of LGBT. But it takes many forms. Nowadays, 31% of homophobic attacks happen online, especially in gaming. So we decided to fight homophobia right where it is, on Twitch. We created the first virtual Pride, by asking streamers to play Mario Kart, but only on the Rainbow Roads. We turned the most iconic races since the creation of the game into a symbol of Pride. We partnered with NewTiteuf, one of the most followed streamers in France, and the first one that publicly came out. The day of the Parisian Pride, he hosted a live stream in public in the biggest french gaming room and played on the rainbow roads with other influencers. The stream got viral thanks to their communities. Wa also received the full support of the LGBTQ+ community. Even Twitch highlighted The Pride Race on their homepage, and the media talked about our initiative. Therefore, more and more streamers joined the movement and streamed on the Rainbow Roads with their communities. The Pride Race really became an online Pride with millions of people reached. While thousands of people demonstrated in the streets, thousands of others did the same on the rainbow roads. https://fredfarid.com/work
