The Dandelion Exhibition
With a seemingly regular hairdryer, visitors are invited to blow away the seeds of a digital dandelion. ‘Dandelion’ is a playful and magical experience created in collaboration with London-based agency Sennep for the exhibition Decode - Digital Design Sensations at the Victoria & Albert Museum, co-curated by Onedotzero. The exhibition showcased the latest developments in digital and interactive design at V&A in 2009. In ‘Dandelion’, visitors can manipulate the digital visuals as well as an adaptive soundscape that reacts according to the visitors’ movements. The installation consists of an infrared camera, a computer, a hacked hairdryer and a projector. When using the hairdryer, the camera tracks the position of the visitor and the installation reacts to its movements. By combing a physical object, adaptive soundscapes and digital visuals, the installation gives the illusion of actually blowing air at the Dandelion, making the seeds flow in the wind. Thus, the installation is an example of how simple technology can create an interactive and engaging output.
