The World in the Viking Age
The Sea travels, trade and treasure hunting of the 9th century that transformed the world is showed in a new, global and interactive way in the exhibition 'The World in the Viking Age' at The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is the Danish museum for ships, seafaring and boatbuilding culture in ancient and medieval times. The special exhibition ‘The World in the Viking Age’ provides a new, global perspective on the Viking Age telling the world history about ships, people and objects on the move – from the furthest reaches of Scandinavia to the Mediterranean, and from the Persian Gulf to East Africa and China. Visitors are invited to dive into surprising stories about the artefacts' origins, value, trade routes, production, cultural context and the people who created them and further to interact with the history of sea travel in Viking times. A story of ships, people and artefacts travelling great distances from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean Sea and to the Far East. The exhibition is divided into two dark treasure chamber-like rooms. In the first room, the visitors can explore the reach of the sea travelers by interacting with a large, circular world map. In the second room, a world map shows visitors the long route of how the exhibited artefacts have travelled across the continents and great oceans by using dynamic LEDs to illuminate the routes. https://www.yoke.dk/
