Big, bold, entirely modern. The opening of the new Tate modern in June 2016 was one of the most of the significant on the UK art scene in 20 years. The challenge was to engage viewers in Tate’s vast collection like never before by delivering two spaces for the new switch house. Each space was concepted, designed, and built from the ground up allowing the team of developers and producers to get truly hands on with the brief. The resulting spaces showcase new technologies working in sync to display Tate’s wealth of archived material in unexpected ways. The Explore Performance Space is propelled by human emotion. Precision-placed lighting spots draw viewers into sonar sensor monitored spaces, where their body movements trigger a content show to display on the way directly in front of them. The visuals are accompanied by state-of-the-art directional audio building a full sensory experience around the performance art on show. The viewer is both spectating and making art happen. The Explore Artists’ City Space prompts viewers to question the relationship between artist and location. A dazzling, particle-animated projection of a world map covers the back wall and entire floor space, taking visitors on a spin around the globe before transporting them to the locations of major, international artists using rich, multimedia content. Tate modern is a place where art and technology collide. Where development and design are curated alongside artworks as part of the contemporary viewing experience. https://www.ftwdigital.com/#/https/vimeocom/365782837/
