Challenge According to The World Health Organization, an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 individuals worldwide suffer from Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) every year. This condition is debilitating and causes significant obstacles in daily activities, education, employment and social participation due to its adverse effects on physical functions. In the US alone, about 17,000 new SCI cases are reported annually, with 294,000 individuals currently living with it. The economic burden is significant, with care costs reaching up to $5.2 million, excluding the loss of income and decreased productivity of those affected. Despite advancements in assistive technologies, people with disabilities still have limited interaction, restricted computer control and internet access. As a result, users experience reduced autonomy and a sense of frustration. Inspiration The tongue is a promising alternative for interacting with digital platforms, especially for individuals with limited mobility or disabilities. The tongue's dexterity and sensitivity come from its intricate network of muscles and nerves, which generate a wide range of movements. These movements enable the tongue to control computers, smartphones, tablets and other electronics with accuracy.
