#NotACostume
A new campaign by advocacy group Chiefs of Ontario and BBDO Toronto seeks to stop cultural appropriation during Halloween. Highlighting the issue of misrepresenting cultures, the campaign reminds people that while Halloween is a time for costumes, cultures should not be borrowed or misrepresented. Encouraging thoughtful reflection, the campaign suggests that if you want to dress as an Indigenous person, choose a profession like firefighter, lawyer, doctor, or pilot, as those are true representations of Indigenous people, not costumes. The campaign is promoted via social media, PR, and in-store displays at Toronto's Theatrics Plus.
