Pudsey Speaks
Pudsey Speaks marks the first time in more than 40 years that BBC Children in Need's mascot has said a word. Timed to Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, the 30-second film finds Pudsey — a plush bear brought to life with live-action puppetry and subtle 2D mouth animation, voiced with a soft Yorkshire lilt chosen from 137 auditions — sitting down for a heart-to-heart with a young boy at home. The bear's first words carry one message for adults: every child deserves someone who will listen. The film premiered on The One Show on 11 May 2026 and ran across BBC television and radio, pointing parents and carers to a mental health hub built with The Children's Society, alongside £1.24m in new funding for early-intervention support.
