Bulletproof Park
In response to South Africa’s devastating gun violence—where over 34 people are killed daily by firearms—Gun Free SA and M&C Saatchi Abel launched the provocative “Bullet Proof Park” campaign. Designed as a playground encased in level-eight bulletproof glass, complete with biometric access and 24/7 surveillance, the park was never meant to be a real solution, but rather a shocking symbol to expose the absurdity of a reality where children need military-grade protection just to play safely. Launched ahead of the 2024 national elections, the campaign sparked national and global outrage, igniting urgent conversations around gun control, policy reform, and public safety. With 105 media pieces reaching nearly 100 million people, R13 million in earned media, and a 700% surge in public interest, the campaign directly influenced political leaders—including President Ramaphosa—and led to the creation of 60 new gun-free zones. Bullet Proof Park stands as a powerful example of how creativity and strategic shock value can move public discourse, challenge the status quo, and drive real change.
