HEART CLASS Interactive Film
HEART CLASS uses interactive film to teach US high school students how to do CPR better. HEART CLASS was filmed on location in Louisville, Kentucky. UNIT9 writer-director Martin Percy collaborated on the project with Dr Lorrel Brown Toft M.D., a cardiovascular critical care physician and researcher – and a leading authority on the teaching of CPR in US schools. It was inspired by and is based on LIFESAVER and LIFESAVER VR from the Resuscitation Council (UK). HEART CLASS shows that interactive film isn’t just for ‘one person, one device’ situations. It can work for groups. HEART CLASS works with one computer for a class of 30 students – or an assembly of 300 students. It does this by using the power of collaborative, group interaction. It splits the group into two teams and giving them scores as they compete to save a life. This is a breakthrough for interactive film. And of course, this approach can work equally well in commercial settings – from small team meetings to big conferences. HEART CLASS shows that interactive film isn’t a gimmick. It can teach kids to save lives better. Medical researchers tested over 600 US high school students. They found that HEART CLASS is 90% more effective than traditional techniques for teaching kids CPR.
