Future Crafts
Kaikado Café opened its doors to the public on 20 May 2016. Kaikado, a more than 140-year-old family run company in Kyoto, is taking the lead in creating new and mindful experiences building on their proud legacy – their Chazutsu tea caddy is highly appreciated for its splendid style and functional, airtight design. OEO Studio has together with the Yagi family of Kaikado and local architect Hideki Ohiwa transformed a 100-year-old government building into an eclectic universe of coffee and tea. In the process of adapting the space for future crafts, the team also paid meticulous attention to preserving and enhancing the qualities of the original building. The café serves their own speciality roast by Nakagawa Wani as well as tea by Post Card teas (London). There is a courtyard garden, a gallery space for changing exhibitions and a laidback whisky bar. https://www.oeostudio.com/
