Engagement to Action: Transformative Partnerships for Klang River
The Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) initiative is a significant environmental and socioeconomic megaproject aimed at revitalizing Malaysia's Klang River, once ranked as one of the world's 50 dirtiest rivers. Led by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), this project focuses on enhancing the river’s ecosystem while addressing climate change, biodiversity preservation, and water resource management. The narrative of SMG has evolved over the years, starting with river cleaning efforts from 2019-2021, transitioning to corporate branding from 2021-2023, and now focusing on societal relevance from 2023-2025. The project emphasizes collective community engagement, partnership building, and alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, alongside the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through strategic partnerships with stakeholders across government, private, public, and civil society sectors, the SMG initiative has seen an increase in engagement and contributions, expanding its impact and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
