The Hidden Page
Restoring overlooked Afro-Peruvian voices to the country’s historical narrative, LUNDU’s “The Hidden Page” brings the stories of four forgotten heroes and heroines directly into schools. Created with Cheil Peru, the educational project addresses the limited representation of Afro-Peruvian contributions in traditional textbooks, which have often reduced Black history to narratives of enslavement while overlooking the individuals whose struggles and achievements helped shape Peru. Drawing on historical memory and oral traditions preserved within Afro-Peruvian communities, the initiative transforms these stories into educational materials designed to complement what students encounter in the classroom. With 50,000 copies distributed across schools in Lima, Callao, Ica, Lambayeque and Piura, “The Hidden Page” seeks to make Peru’s history more representative by giving previously excluded figures the recognition and visibility they deserve.
