Badges of Hope
The project aimed to shift public perception of a well-known surgical charity that was often misunderstood as a short-term aid provider, instead highlighting its long-term role in expanding access to safe surgery through training and healthcare infrastructure. It reframed the organization’s mission around the urgent global issue that a large portion of the population lacks access to safe surgical care, with the goal of increasing support from donors and partners. Central to the idea was transforming the meaning of scars—from marks people typically hide into powerful symbols of successful care and access—positioning them as “badges of hope” that represent positive outcomes and renewed lives, while also illustrating the wide range of surgical procedures provided beyond commonly recognized treatments.
