The Fanning Turns 21
To celebrate the 21st anniversary of its iconic Fanning sandal, REEF has launched ‘The Fanning Turns 21’, a lighthearted campaign that leans into the product’s cultural legacy while keeping it firmly rooted in the present. Originally created with surfer Mick Fanning, the sandal became famous for its built-in bottle opener—an irreverent yet functional detail that helped define the brand’s personality. Set around relaxed backyard BBQ scenes, the campaign showcases the sandal in everyday use, letting its signature feature appear naturally through casual interactions rather than forced product moments. Blending surf culture with universally relatable scenarios, the work positions the Fanning not as a nostalgic relic, but as a product that continues to evolve and stay relevant across new settings and audiences.
