Give Life Back
A campaign and brand platform to transform the parole and probation system. REFORM Alliance’s mission is to transform America’s parole and probation system, which currently keeps 4.5 million people trapped in an unjust system. Right now, every four minutes, someone on parole or probation is being sent behind bars for a technical violation—things that most of us do every day, like going out after 9 p.m. or crossing state lines. The public perception is that the current parole and probation system helps people get back into society—when the reality is that it does the opposite. We needed to change that. So we created “Give Life Back,” a campaign and a brand platform that showed how everyday actions can result in consequences that rob weeks, months, and sometimes years, from millions of people’s lives, even after they’ve done the time. A film that’s technically illegal. We created an anthem film that opened with a disclaimer, warning people that what they were about to see was technically illegal. But what viewers saw didn’t look illegal at all—in fact, most of us do these things everyday, like going out past 9 p.m., crossing state lines or just having a glass of beer on the table. All the scenes were inspired by real situations that actually resulted in technical violations for people on parole and probation. Directed by Malik Hassan Sayeed, the film elicited compassion, empathy and anger for those stuck in the system—reactions that would lead to real action. We created a new brand identity. We streamlined REFORM’s brand identity with an enhanced color palette and typographic hierarchy for their entire digital presence.
