In 2018, IHOP changed its name to IHOb for burgers. And as you may recall, the Internet freaked out. They told IHOP to stay in its lane and stick to pancakes. So in 2019, we responded to the naysayers by simply calling our burgers pancakes. It was our way of trolling the trolls and provoking the Internet to, once again, talk about our burgers, or, should we say, pancakes. One big burger stunt deserves another. Just like last year, we kicked off the campaign with a simple social post that featured the P of the IHOP logo flipping. However, this time, it swung all the way back around to a P, unleashing a new wave of speculation around what we were up to. With the press buzzing, we released a video that featured a slew of IHOb’s most critical and outspoken tweets from last year, telling us to stick to pancakes. Once we had their attention, we had more fun with our critics and launched an integrated campaign that introduced the world to a new line of pancakes: 100% USDA Choice Black Angus Beef Pancakes. But we didn't stop there We took things a step further and responded directly to last year’s haters by banning them from our new pancakes. So, if you were one of the millions of people who tweeted something hurtful about IHOP, you could find yourself on a website called The Bancake List. All you had to do to get off The Bancake List and back in IHOP’s good graces was simply apologize. In the end, the campaign poked fun at our critics and got the massive reaction we were looking for, garnering 13,000 news stories, 70,000 social mentions and over 1.5 billion earned media impressions. We also sold a lot of pancakes. Credits: Droga5 Agency https://droga5.com/work/ihop-introducing-our-new-pancakes/
