Magellan Solution: Visualizing Social Presence Through a Scalable Infrastructure
Magellan Solution began as a proof of concept created by Nurun in 2017 for its Publicis Groupe partner, Saatchi & Saatchi UK and has since become a fully functional product. Initially named ZMOT, this basic reporting tool used Upfluence (influencer marketing platform), Pi Datametrics (SEO), and Tableau Desktop (data visualization software) to provide insights into a brand’s presence on social platforms, including search volume, competitors, influencers, reach, and engagement. Existing products on the market could not provide the visibility that Saatchi & Saatchi needed to analyze a client’s performance versus its competitors in both search and social media. ZMOT had the capacity to connect the two by combining multiple sources of insights so that brands could better understand their social competitive landscape. The application had several constraints from the get-go, however. Manual manipulations were required to create workbooks, performance issues arose with Tableau due to its reliance on a user’s computer, and scalability was limited since the tool was hosted on Nurun’s internal servers.
