Placed In Care (Anbragt)
The "Placed in Care" exhibition at the Danish Welfare Museum narrates the experiences of over 150,000 Danish children placed in orphanages, institutions, or foster families over the past 150 years, told through their own words rather than the official child-protection system. The exhibition, divided into sections for adults/teens and children, engages visitors through interviews, films, and historical objects that tell authentic life stories. Co-curated with 'De Anbragtes Vilkar', an NGO representing previously placed children, the exhibition design features immersive spaces with unique color settings and repurposed furniture to create a sense of homeliness and instability, while also promoting sustainability. The children's section includes The Historical Room, The Cinema, and the Corridor of Reflections, aimed at fostering historical empathy and encouraging reflection. In 2023, the museum saw a 14% increase in visitors, and the exhibition has been widely covered in national media, significantly contributing to the public debate on the conditions of children in care.
