Act Like A Friend
Transport for London’s Act Like a Friend campaign by VCCP and Wavemaker encourages passengers to safely intervene when witnessing hate crime, sexual harassment, or abuse on the network. Launched during National Hate Crime Awareness Week, the campaign is built on the insight that many people want to help but don’t know how. By reframing intervention as simply “acting like a friend,” it offers easy ways to support victims—such as starting a friendly conversation or checking if they’re okay—without confrontation. Directed by Edem Kelman, the 120” hero film tells real stories of Londoners stepping in to help, supported by digital, social, cinema, and out-of-home executions that feature true bystander accounts. The campaign runs alongside TfL’s Tackling Crime strand, reminding offenders that abuse has real consequences. Backed by partnerships with London football clubs and community organizations, the initiative underscores TfL’s broader mission to make public transport safer and more inclusive for all.
