Buying Borussia
Borussia Dortmund’s ‘Buying Borussia’ uses mockumentary-style satire to challenge the growing commercialisation of professional football while celebrating the club’s distinctive fan-first identity. The film follows an out-of-touch billionaire heir attempting to evaluate BVB as a luxury investment, only to encounter a club defined by passion, participation and a grounded connection with its supporters. His absurd expectations create a series of comedic moments that highlight the disconnect between corporate market logic and the culture of football. Closing with the line ‘Built different’, the campaign reinforces BVB’s commitment to its fans and the 50+1 rule while using humour and self-deprecation rather than heavy-handed criticism. Produced in English, the campaign was designed to reach football audiences internationally.
