The CDB Diet was a fake wellness trend built to show Canadians what the new Canada Disability Benefit really buys. At a maximum of $200 a month, the benefit works out to just $6.67 a day, so the campaign packaged that figure as a slick minimalist diet brand with its own social channels, website, out-of-home ads and taglines like "Welcome to Minimal Eating" and "The Art of Eating Less." Food, fitness and lifestyle creators posted native "What I Eat in a Day on $6.67" videos, and as comment sections filled with disbelief and outrage at how impossible and unhealthy it looked, Daily Bread Food Bank and a coalition of more than 50 anti-poverty and disability-rights organizations revealed the truth: the CDB Diet isn't a diet, it is the daily reality for people living on the benefit. Every touchpoint then pointed to FundTheBenefit.ca/cdb-diet, where Canadians could email their MP in one click. To keep the pressure on decision makers, CDB-branded boxes holding $6.67 worth of groceries were delivered to MPs and out-of-home placements went up around Parliament Hill. The campaign drove more than 64,000 emails to MPs, saw the benefit raised eight times on the floor of Parliament, and was followed by $115.7 million in additional federal funding for Canadians with disabilities in the November 2025 budget.
