Postbyen: Get in to get out
The parking facilities at Postbyen were reimagined to transform a typically frustrating experience into one that is intuitive, seamless, and efficient. Parking garages are often dark, confusing spaces where visitors waste time on wrong turns and forgotten spots. To counter this, the design strategy focused on clarity, speed, and the natural desire to leave quickly, ensuring that visitors could spend more time enjoying Postbyen’s architecture and less time navigating a basement maze. The solution activated all vertical staircases and elevators as the primary routes out, making them the most visible and direct paths to the surface. A color-based zoning system, rooted in Postbyen’s brand identity, was implemented to clearly define sections of the garage. Each zone combined distinctive colors and shapes, turning exits into inviting guides that helped users both find their way and remember where they parked. Once outside, visitors are oriented by a sculptural three-dimensional concrete map, designed in the same material as the surrounding buildings to harmonize with the urban landscape. This refined transition—from functional, raw graphics below to tactile, architectural signage above—creates continuity and reinforces Postbyen’s identity. The result is a parking experience that prioritizes clarity and ease of movement, balancing functionality with design to eliminate stress and confusion, while aligning seamlessly with the architectural context of Postbyen.
