Eye Dar
Eyedar, developed by Horizon Therapeutics with Area 23, Dalmatian Cow, and Blind Pig, is the first mobile app to make echolocation accessible to anyone with a smartphone. Using iPhone LiDAR technology, the app maps a user’s environment and translates it into 3D soundscapes, allowing people who are blind to “visualize” their surroundings. Designed with a blind-led UX team and a blind-first approach, Eyedar replaces visual interfaces with intuitive gestures and voiceover, enabling users to learn echolocation—a skill previously mastered by only 1% of the blind community. By removing barriers to learning, Eyedar has the potential to redefine accessibility and independence for people who are blind.
