New Digital Solution for Denmark's Largest Trade Magazine
The trade magazine 3F, Denmark's largest union media outlet, has recently undergone a major digital transformation by launching a new website and accompanying app. The upgrade aims to enhance the user experience, streamline editorial workflows, and expand 3F's reach through new innovative features and tools. Fagbladet 3F has a tradition of producing hard-hitting news and large investigative projects but lacked the ability to fully unfold these stories digitally. With 3F's old site, it was only possible to publish the stories, and the solution did not support 3F's desire to present their stories in a more relevant and eye-catching way. Fagbladet 3F approached Peytz with the desire for a new digital solution based on WordPress or a similar open-source CMS. The choice of CMS was critical to ensure flexibility, ease of use, and the ability for future customizations. WordPress was an obvious choice, partly because Peytz has experience developing complex media solutions in WordPress, and partly because of the many possibilities offered by Gutenberg. The new solution for Fagbladet 3F comes with a range of essential features. Among other things, they’ve provided the editors with a tool for managing the homepage. Content managers can now move articles around and control the prioritized order of published content. Additionally, future planned releases can be easily incorporated into this order, ensuring they are published in the correct placements on the homepage. From an editorial standpoint, Fagbladet 3F now features a more visual fact box (including a fact box slider) and expanded options for using quotes. The website includes a news overview similar to other news media sites. Data is fetched through a REST API call to API endpoints, and while the data is live and dynamic, they’ve implemented caching techniques. This means that when a news article is saved, the first 5 pages of the cache are built in Redis, so visitors always encounter a warm cache, resulting in an excellent user experience.
