In light of the recent six-year anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges U.S. Supreme Court decision granting nationwide marriage equality, Family Equality members are rallying Americans to champion the next frontier of LGBTQ+ rights: access to parenthood. Despite progress, barriers persist, with 11 states permitting adoption agencies to discriminate against qualified LGBTQ+ parents. With 63% of North American LGBTQ+ millennials considering parenthood, the concept of family in America continues to evolve. Family Equality, in collaboration with creative agencies TBWA\Chiat\Day New York and Furlined, has crafted Love, Lawyers & The Government, a poignant short film shedding light on the challenges LGBTQ+ individuals and couples face in building their families. Directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, the film offers a heartfelt portrayal of these obstacles, drawing from Speck's personal experience as part of an adoptive same-sex family. As advocates call for support of critical legislation like The Equality Act and the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act, the film serves as a catalyst for progress in the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
