Sometimes an art masterpiece can be born from a happy accident, brought on by moments of pure joy that make creativity flow. This is exactly what the world’s master of paper craft, Fedrigoni, stands for and what Superunion wanted to communicate to artists with the launch of Fedrigoni’s new range of paper, Arena. Fedrigoni Arena is the highest quality tool for creative communication, adapting to every need and creative vision of the artist. Available in four shades and in different varieties of sizes and grain directions, it is rational yet elegant, and works with any printing process. The Singapore-based creative director, Scott Lambert, partnered with Fedrigoni to create an artbook of artistic expression. Designed to promote Fedrigoni’s new range of Arena paper to a community of designers and artists worldwide, the Happy Mess artbook was born, designed to showcase those unexpected moments of creative inspiration which are often taken from the most ordinary everyday. The creative brief was to produce an artistic expression that could demonstrate the varieties of textures within the Arena range and inspire designers to experience and explore its new tactile combinations. The artbook used Fedrigoni’s Arena Paper in various weights and textures and Indian black ink to reflect on the little moments of joy that everyday life can bring. Scott sketched in ink some of the irrational ideas and moments in life that make us happy. From barbecues, mopeds and shoes to triumphant moments in sports and creepy crawlies. In doing so, the traditional paper swatch book was transformed into a flip book with a collection of 1,024 combinations. These could be subverted into unexpected imaginings to inspire an artist in the rut of the occasional creative block. The partnership with Fedrigoni became the latest in a long line of collaborations between the Italian speciality paper maker and the creative community, building on the natural synergy between the artists and the makers. The book spotlights the simple moments of euphoria that come from enjoying life’s distractions. It celebrated the messy by-product of the everyday lives and physical manifestations within it. Launched in the Summer of 2022, Happy Mess flip books have made their way into the hands of leading designers and studios worldwide. Enabling them to embrace the creativity held within little moments of joy and the untidier aspects of the lives.
