Jim Longden re-opens the story of Sonny Hall’s Johnny Little, now returning to the city with his sights set on getting published Expanding the universe created around his narrative debut To Erase A Cloud, director Jim Longden opens a new chapter for city-bound poet Johnny Little in his latest short Puddle of Muddles. In the sequel Longden never intended to make, Sonny Hall returns to the role for a second time, now navigating the streets of an alternate London with ambitions to publish his first book. Its events taking place some years after those that molded To Erase A Cloud, Little’s next amble through the capital is delivered with an undercurrent of dark humor, campy dialogue and exaggerated characterization, detouring from the style and energy established in his early work. Shot in three days with an ensemble cast of close friends, and commissioned by Floraïku Paris and produced by Curly Films, the concept evolved far beyond its initial parameters, following Little as he treads new ground with varying degrees of success. Capturing the sometimes farcical nature of the long road to recognition, and the trials of a city closed to those seeking a route in, Longden’s outsider vision enables Little to find his place amid the chaos that surrounds him. A film which he directed, wrote, cast, edited, composed and produced just twelve months after undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor, Puddle of Muddles approaches familiar territory with a fresh perspective, marking Longden’s development towards an awakened state where comedy and absurdity cuts through the darkness.
