Destigmatize: Voices
FUNCTION and Maggie’s Toronto, with Plot and partners Yabu Pushelberg and ViiV Healthcare, have launched Destigmatize: Voices, the latest chapter of their HIV awareness platform. The campaign uses personal storytelling, spoken-word narration, and film to highlight the lived experiences of people with HIV, exploring resilience, community care, and the emotional weight of stigma. Directed by Eric Richards and featuring performer Justen Ross, the hero film blends intimate visuals—from underwater stillness to starlit landscapes—with reflective narration to affirm, “You are not a diagnosis, you are a declaration.” Complemented by additional videos, a refreshed digital hub, and a campaign identity by Locomotive, the initiative aims to foster empathy, support disclosure, and challenge HIV stigma in Canada.
