Hosoo Flagship Store
On 2 September 2019, HOSOO opened their first flagship store in the old Kyoto district of Karasuma-Oike on the ground floor of a building that also houses the HOSOO headquarters. OEO Studio has contributed to the interior design of the 275m2 flagship store, while local architect Naohisa Hosoo has headed the transformation and renovation of the five-storey building. Traditional craft techniques have been extensively applied in the interior and exterior of the building. OEO Studio has from the early stage of the project been involved in the spatial planning, choice of materials and the design of bespoke interior elements. The result is a minimalistic and exclusive space that emphasises the qualities and the beauty of HOSOO textiles. A bold staircase in the centre of the flagship store divides the space into a lounge area and a store area. The HOSOO textile collection can be viewed in its entirely in the store’s semi-private meeting rooms which face small Zen-like courtyards. Loose-hanging textiles are beautifully displayed with the earthen wall as a contrasting backdrop. Transparent curtains play with light and shadow. The flagship store features a selection of luxury goods displayed on bespoke shelving. The furnishing also includes a bespoke collection designed by OEO Studio for HOSOO. The pared-back design of this collection is boldly contrasted with the Nishijin textiles used for upholstery. The exterior of the top floors of the building is covered with Nishijin Reflected, which is a transparent Nishijin textile featuring the ‘Moss’ pattern designed by OEO Studio. At night, the design offers an alluring subtle glow. Nishijin Reflected is constructed using alternating layers of fibre-reinforced resin and glass – an innovative use of materials that allows Nishijin textile to be applied in new ways. https://www.oeostudio.com/
