In an effort to meet the needs of an industry that is seeking to modernize, the McCord-Stewart Museum put digital at the core of its strategic planning for 2017 to 2021. More specifically: digital as an agent of change internally and as a tool for engaging with the outside public. Management reached out to Nurun to offer it this important mandate, which was to define a work process that would improve the museum’s experience with various audiences. This organizational transformation covered three dimensions: The first was human capital, which meant increasing employee participation in this change, evaluating internal expertise, and determining the support needed in change management. The second was technological infrastructure, which consisted of an extensive audit of McCord-Stewart’s technological systems, the maturity and implementation of business intelligence, skill level in security and system sustainability, and mobile capability. The third and final element was digital engagement. This involved a deep-dive into existing digital platforms, auditing digital devices inside the museum, knowledge of pilot projects centered on innovation, and sharing the communication and engagement strategy with various publics.
