The partnership between independent creative agency JOAN and Canada's Nia Centre, the first professional multidisciplinary Black arts facility, aims to promote the center's opening and celebrate Black-Canadian creativity. Titled "Nia Centre: Where Art Makes Culture," the campaign focuses on rebranding and building awareness ahead of the center's grand opening in Fall 2023. Leveraging various marketing platforms such as film, digital OOH, wild postings, audio, pre-roll, and digital banners, the campaign generated over 20 million impressions for OOH and achieved an impressive video completion rate of 60.64% from skippable placements. Spotify and YouTube contributed to the broad reach, collectively exceeding 2 million impressions. The rebranding effort includes redesigning key brand visuals, such as the logo, graphics, typography, color palette, and interior and exterior designs, to position Nia Centre as a top-tier Canadian art institution. Additionally, JOAN designed the opening exhibition, 'Here to Stay,' alongside TIFF, showcasing Black spaces that have shaped Toronto culture. The hero film features a Black teenage girl in Little Jamaica, where the center is located, alongside Black artists creating and performing in the center's spaces. With a powerful poetic manifesto urging viewers to "make your place," the campaign highlights the significance of Nia Centre as a home for Black artists. This pro bono campaign reflects JOAN's commitment to empowering underrepresented communities and making modern brands legendary.
