Nordea, a Nordic bank grounded in progressive values, identified a societal inequality despite equal parental leave laws: in Finland, 88% of leave days are taken by women, and 20% of fathers don’t use their leave, often due to mortgage burdens. To address this, Nordea launched the Parental Leave Mortgage, allowing parents to pause mortgage payments entirely during parental leave, removing financial barriers and encouraging more equal sharing of leave. The campaign generated significant awareness, reaching 8.5 million people in its first week—1.5 times Finland’s population—with 10,000 families enquiring about the product and an average savings of €460 per month per family. It also boosted Nordea’s perception in Finland, increasing views of the bank as caring (+200%), socially positive (+180%), and innovative (+150%).
