Reject the Rejections
People Like Us has launched “Reject the Rejections,” a campaign highlighting concerns around automated hiring systems and their disproportionate impact on ethnic minority jobseekers. Based on research showing that many candidates suspect applications are rejected without human review and that ethnically diverse applicants are rejected faster and more likely to remove aspects of their identity from CVs, the campaign calls for greater transparency, human oversight and independent bias audits. At its centre is the four-minute film “Dear [Name],” starring Ebenezer Gyau, which transforms real rejection-email language into a spoken-word performance exploring self-doubt, exclusion and resilience. The campaign also offers a tool enabling rejected candidates to ask whether automation was used and request a human review.
