Visit Faroe Islands has launched Self-Navigating Cars, a world-first travel experience designed to challenge traditional bucket-list tourism and distribute visitors more sustainably across the archipelago. After scanning a QR code in their rental car or camper van, travellers activate curated GPS journeys that reveal surprise destinations turn by turn, taking them away from crowded hotspots and towards hidden villages, fjords, cliffs and local favourites. Built around the idea of “surrender seeking,” the experience removes the traveller’s ability to choose the destination, encouraging spontaneity and discovery while helping spread tourism beyond the small percentage of attractions that typically receive the majority of visitors.
