The World is the Whitechapel
Whitechapel Gallery has unveiled a bold, community-driven visual identity for its 125th anniversary, created by BBH Studios. The design celebrates the Gallery’s radical heritage while looking to the future, drawing on East London’s creative spirit and its history of activism. The logo merges a British Art Nouveau–inspired serif from the listed façade with the contemporary Whitechapel Bold typeface, while a minimal palette punctuated with electric blue symbolizes progress. The identity incorporates hundreds of mixed-media “125” lockups and visuals co-created with staff, artists, patrons, and visitors, embedding the community at its heart. Supported by a comprehensive toolkit for print, digital, outdoor, and motion, the new identity launches alongside the Gallery’s anniversary programme, blending maximalist expression with a confident, forward-facing framework.
