Womanikin: Designed To Save Women's Lives
The WoManikin is an awareness and education campaign created to address the gender gap in bystander CPR, where women are 27% less likely than men to receive CPR in public—despite heart disease being the leading cause of death among women. Partnering with cardiovascular expert Dr. Audrey L. Blewer, the campaign identified key barriers: lack of awareness that women have cardiac events, misconceptions about CPR on women, and societal taboos around touching breasts. The solution was The WoManikin—an open-source, affordable breast attachment for standard CPR manikins—designed to normalize CPR training on female bodies. By prompting instructors to address gender bias during training and helping learners practice on anatomically correct torsos, The WoManikin encourages behavioral change at the moment of learning, helping save more women’s lives.
