RivianOS 2 is Rivian's rebuilt, AI-defined vehicle software platform, rolled out to the R1 lineup with over-the-air update 2026.31 on 4 September 2026 and already shipping on R2. For the first time it puts Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1 trucks and SUVs on the same software stack as R2, so feature updates, interface improvements, and hardware-aware capabilities can land across the fleet from one foundation. The cabin interface is redesigned around reach and glance: quick controls and the media player can sit on either side of the center display, a vertical status bar keeps key vehicle functions close, and Settings 2 adds context-aware controls with universal search. Unreal Engine 5 powers real-time 3D vehicle and surroundings graphics on supported hardware (Gen 1 stays on Unreal Engine 4 for responsiveness). Navigation folds in real-time police and speed-camera alerts via Google Maps; Connect+ adds a dedicated weather app and Mobile Live Trips from the Rivian phone app. Rivian Unified Intelligence underpins expanded cloud-assisted voice and hybrid edge AI on newer compute, with owner controls to toggle wake words, limit location sharing, and manage driver-profile data on every generation.
