Project R2
Rivian’s launch of the R2—its most accessible electric vehicle yet—redefined the modern meaning of adventure. Recognizing that traditional automotive narratives often position adventure as elite or out of reach, Rivian aimed to democratize that spirit, emphasizing that adventure can be part of everyday life. To support this vision, Rivian released a cinematic unveil film for the R2, directed by Jason Harper. Rather than focusing on specs, the film celebrated the diverse human experiences enabled by the vehicle—road trips, quiet nature escapes, and spontaneous urban detours—positioning the R2 as a gateway to exploration for all. This emotional framing underscored Rivian’s ethos: life itself is the adventure. Complementing the R2 launch, the R3 and R3X were teased through Slideshow, a second film that leaned into modern nostalgia. Inspired by the atmosphere of the theatre where the unveiling took place, the piece hinted at Rivian’s future vision with playful energy and design-forward storytelling. The campaign achieved impressive impact: within 48 hours, it exceeded all key performance indicators. Rivian’s stock surged by 13% on the day of the event, and the brand captured millions of earned media impressions. At a time of escalating EV competition, this launch helped Rivian not just remain visible—but stand apart.
