Innovation Incubator
Inside Škoda's technical development in Mladá Boleslav sits the Innovation Incubator, a hands-on workshop where ideas for small, practical car features are built, tested and either dropped or pushed toward production fast. There is no fixed team and no classic hierarchy: engineers, designers and students rotate in depending on where an idea comes from, with a coach rather than a boss guiding each project. 3D printers, cutting and welding gear let the team turn a sketch into a working model within days. Only about a third of the ideas that pass through make it to the next stage, and roughly half of those reach customers. Features traced back to the wider innovation team include the ice scraper in the fuel cap, the rear-seat tablet holder and the washer-fluid funnel built into the tank cap, alongside small software functions. The incubator also took the illuminated Crystal Face grille of the ENYAQ iV from first sketch to final design in three months, and rebuilt a scrapped test car with parts made from recycled and alternative materials to show what they could do.
