Impossible Journey
Impossible Journey is a powerful short film that tells the true story of Black motherhood in America through a striking metaphor: a stork tasked with delivering a baby. As the stork navigates a perilous, obstacle-filled journey, the film visualises the severe health risks Black mothers face during childbirth—risks that contribute to Black women being three times more likely to die than white women. This harrowing passage is contrasted with a second stork’s smooth, uneventful journey, representing the vastly different experiences of white mothers. Hand-painted throughout, the film builds to a poignant conclusion with a live-action reading of an original poem by Bruce McIntyre, who lost his partner, Amber Rose Isaac, during childbirth in 2020, grounding the metaphor in lived reality and underscoring the urgent need for change.
