By creating temporary black markets, Carrefour exposed the absurdity of only 3% of seeds being legal, recruited farmers, and rallied public support via petitions, leading to a new EU law in 2018/2019 allowing farmers to sell their own seeds and boosting Carrefour's brand image as a champion for biodiversity.
