Canada’s first WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo, has announced CIBC as its newest founding partner. As the Official Bank of the Tempo, CIBC’s logo will appear on team jerseys when the team makes its debut on the court in 2026. The partnership reflects CIBC’s long-standing commitment to supporting the ambitions of Canadians across the country. Stephen Forbes, executive vice president of purpose, brand, and corporate affairs at CIBC, expressed pride in joining the efforts to bring women’s professional basketball to Canada, partnering with the Tempo’s ownership group led by Larry Tanenbaum. Forbes emphasized the growing excitement around the new franchise and CIBC’s dedication to boosting accessibility and awareness for women’s basketball. Teresa Resch, president of the Tempo Basketball Club, praised CIBC’s commitment to the team’s bold ambitions, highlighting the bank’s vital role in elevating the profile of the players and the game itself. Alongside the partnership announcement, CIBC introduced 'Champions of Ambition,' a new community initiative designed to celebrate Canadians making a difference in women’s sports. Through this program, CIBC will spotlight changemakers from across the country, starting with a video campaign that showcases stories of individuals who help shape future generations of athletes, from high school coaches to community mentors. Over the coming months, CIBC will also develop new opportunities to enhance representation in women’s sports in Canada. The Toronto Tempo will begin playing at Coca-Cola Coliseum in 2026 and plan to host regular-season games across the country. Fans can find more information and register for the Season Ticket Waitlist at tempo.wnba.com.
